LONGEST RUNNING AFRICAN-AMERICAN DIRECTED PASSION PLAY OF IT'S KIND
FEATURES LEGENDARY LADY TRAMAINE HAWKINS
“Easter weekend just isn’t the same without seeing Upon This Rock. It’s more than a play, it’s an experience!” These words from a faithful patron of the Upon This Rock Passion Play speak the resounding sentiments of faithful attendees of this annual production.
On Friday, April 2 & Saturday, April 3, 2010, Indianapolis based Upon This Rock Productions will again present the annual passion play that completes Easter weekend in the city of Indianapolis. For 26 years Upon This Rock has blessed and inspired thousands throughout the U.S.
Playwright Sharon L. Hill, and her brother, Pastor A. Thomas Hill share their God-given talents as they personally usher the audience through a journey backwards in time to the life and times of Jesus, the Christ. Masterfully, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, Sharon and over 300 cast and crew bring the Bible to life and create scenes so real that every person in the audience feels as though they are actually in the presence of Jesus, the disciples, Mary Magdalene, Pilate, and other Bible personalities! Each year persons leave the play asking, “Did not our hearts burn within us, while (Jesus) talked with us…, and while He opened to us the scriptures?”
Special guest gospel artist, Lady Tramaine Hawkins will be featured in the 2010 production. Two time Grammy, Dove, Stellar and CEBA award winner; Gospel Music Hall of Fame Inductee, and recipient of James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award. Hit songs include: Goin' Up Yonder, Changed, Holy One, Jesus Christ is the Way, That Kind of Friend, Fall Down, Look at Me, Potter's House, What Shall I Do and many more.
This year’s Good Friday performance will feature both a matinee and evening performance, and will continue to uphold the long standing tradition of the entire audience sharing in Holy Communion during the Passover scene. Emotions range from tearful sorrow as Jesus hangs life-less on the cross during the crucifixion scene to foot-stomping cheers and shouting during the great showdown between Christ and Satan when Jesus takes the keys to death, hell, and the grave!
Every year busloads from church and community groups throughout the Midwest and across the nation come to experience Upon This Rock, and never does this diverse cast of both professional and amateur actors and singers disappoint them! From the soul-stirring music to the enchanting silhouette of choreographed dance, every song sung, every word spoken, and every move made points the audience to Christ!
The 2010 performances will once again be held at Pike Performing Arts Center, 6701 Zionsville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, April 2, 11am & 6pm and April 3, 11am and 6pm. Tickets will go on sale February 15, 2010. Call (317) 280-8077 for more information.
